Evergrande Women’s Volleyball Team led by Lang Ping is the strongest team with comprehensive power in Group B. It is not only shining with stars with membership of the “Golden Generation”like Zhou Suhong, Feng Kun and Yang Hao, but the backup is also powerful with participation of practical players like Yin Yin, Yang Jie and Zhou Yuan who have much experience in the league. In today’s contest with Hebei, the three veterans joined in the starting lineup, showing their competitiveness, and their superior technology and rich experience in important matches enable them to perform freely in the court.

Evergrande had a relatively stable lineup in its former seven rounds of contests, with Yang Hao & Wang Li on chief attack and Yin Meng & Harmotto on second attack most entrusted. Lang made a major adjustment of today’s lineup due to the seven-game winning streak and the less-competitiveness of Hebei. Yang Hao, Wang Li and Harmotto were in the starting lineup, instead three veterans Yin Yin, Zhou Yuan and Yang Jie joined hands in the court.

Although Yin Yin and Zhou Yuan appeared frequently in the court when Yang Hao and Wang Li’s attacks were blocked in the first cycle, it was the first time for them to be jointly in the starting lineup. Yang Jie, a second spiker from Tianjin, despite her comprehensive technology, was in a disadvantageous position due to her height and age when competed with Harmotto and Yin Meng in their prime. This contest was the first time for Yang Jie to appear in the starting lineup of Evergrande.

The joint lineup of Yin Yin at her 35, Yang Jie at her 32 and Zhou Yuan at her 27 illustrated the “bench depth” of Evergrande Volleyball. Although the three players have seen their best, their performance overall was still satisfactory. The perfect combination of technology and experience enabled them to play well enough in today’s contest, making an example to the young players with skillful and stable performance.

Opposite the net was the young Hebei Team whose leading players were mostly born after 1990. To the three veterans of Evergrande, these young players are much more superior in body and energy. But precious experience from years of contesting makes them evidently better in the way of handling the ball. Except Zhou Yuan who occasionally made forceful breakthroughs with power and speed, Yin Yin and Yang Jie scored primarily by skillful performance. Despite their weaker power and speed, the veterans were able to ensure their efficiency of scoring. With attack alone, Zhou Yuan scored 12 points, and Yin Yin and Yang Jie scored 9 and 7 points respectively in the three sets.

In the contest with Hebei, these veterans had a full play of their skill, the route, drop point and opportunity for attack being so well controlled that blocking and defense of the rival ended in vain. Compared with the young players, Evergrande’s veterans enjoy much better skills and stability in performance, testifying the value of veterans through outstanding performance. Their weakness of age and body is compensated with remarkable skills and their stable performance explains once again the truth of volleyball.

There are a number of young players with remarkable physical advantages in the domestic field of volleyball at present, but it’s hard for them to play an important role within a short period of time due to their basic skills. Veterans over thirty years old like Yin Yin can stand in their position of the league with outstanding skills. They are also the example to the young players who can only enjoy a good perspective with strong basic skills and improvement in their technology.
