The ninth round contests for Group B of National Women’s Volleyball League in 2009-2010 season were completed yesterday. The Evergrande Team led by Lang Ping swept its fierce rival Fujian in three straight sets at 25:18, 25:17 and 25:18 at home, maintaining the top in the table with eight-game winning streak. It’s clear that Evergrande’s targeted service helped a lot in winning the game.

In the first cycle Evergrande’s greatest threat was no other than Fujian. Just one month ago in Fujian, Evergrande won bitterly by regaining two sets when they’re defeated at 1:2 of the five sets. With lessons from last contest, Evergrande played actively in the match, leaving almost no opportunity to Fujian.

Fujian is also a strong team and the scores were very close to each other from the beginning. However, in the second half of the first set, Fujian was made passive by its poor performance of the first pass. Evergrande seized the opportunity and succeeded in continuous block, winning the first at 25:18.

While in the second set, Evergrande took advantage of Zhou Suhong’s service round from start, scoring 5 points through continuously destructing the rival’s pass and leaving its rival far behind within a short time. The weakness of Fujian is that the two chief spikers are not tall enough, and quite a few services from Evergrande were purposefully in front of them. Their poor pass resulted in failure of organizing quick attack and taking their own advantages. Thus Evergrande won a second at 25:17.

Despite the loss of two sets, Fujian played competitively in the beginning of the third set, once in a leading position with 10:8. However, Evergrande reversed the situation when they met at 13, and led the game again till the end with 25:18.

After the game, Lang described that service was the key to success in this contest for Evergrande. “In the away game with Fujian, they played very well and the victory turned out after all the five sets. So we carefully studied their tactics today. In particular, at their service, their tacit cooperation、quick attack and flexible tactics caused much trouble for us. As a result we have been much prepared for service.”

In the next round Evergrande will meet Yunnan at home, who now ranks second in the table.
