On October 16, China’s supreme government prize for poverty alleviation and charity efforts, the Fourth China Poverty Alleviation Award was announced in Beijing. Hui Ka Yan, Member of the CPPCC Standing Committee and Chairman of Evergrande Group, Mr. Yuan Longping, the “Father of Hybrid Rice”, UN World Food Programme (UNWFP) and seven other individuals and institutions received the award. The next morning, the “China Poverty Alleviation Award” had a grand ceremony in China National Convention Center in Beijing, and President Xia Haijun, Vice-Chairman of Evergrande Group, received the award on behalf of Chairman Hui Ka Yan. Wang Yang, Member of the CPC Politburo and Vice-premier of the State Council, attended the ceremony and presented the honors to the winners. He expressed his acknowledgement and appreciation of the outstanding contribution of Chairman Hui Ka Yan and Evergrande in the past years to China’s poverty alleviation efforts.

The jury unanimously agreed that Hui Ka Yan is not only a successful businessman but also a philanthropist who cares about people’s livelihood. He and Evergrande take part in public welfare to see to people’s livelihood, poverty alleviation, disaster relief, education, environment protection, sports and culture and have made outstanding contributions to the construction of a harmonious society. What’s worth special praises is that Hui Ka Yan and Evergrande have long been dedicated to the poverty alleviation efforts and have been a leading figure on the contributors’ list, setting a good example for China’s enterprises in public welfare donation. This award suits him and Evergrande most perfect.
