Evergrande actively responded to the call of the CPC Central Committee, and with the encouragement and support of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), has been providing pairing assistance for Bijie City in Guizhou Province since December 2015. For five consecutive years, Evergrande has donated RMB 11 billion and selected 2,108 full-time poverty alleviation personnel to settle in the Wumeng Mountain area. By the end of 2020, Evergrande has helped all poverty-stricken counties in Bijie and their more than one million poor people out of poverty.
So far, Evergrande has invested 8.1 billion yuan, and assisted local governments at all levels in Bijie to lift 905,000 people there out of poverty preliminarily. Dafang County, Qianxi County, Qixingguan District, and Zhijin County have already got rid of poverty. And in the year of 2020, Evergrande will keep assisting governments at all levels in Bijie to achieve steady poverty reduction for 125,000 people there.
To help and support Bijie City in all aspects, Evergrande figured out and grasped the "bull nose" of the targeted poverty alleviation — poverty alleviation through industrial development, relocation, and employment.
I. Poverty alleviation through industrial development: Evergrande invested 4.4 billion yuan to help Bijie build two bases in southwest China region - one is the largest vegetable and fruit base and the other is the largest cattle breeding base, helping 700,000 people of 200,000 households in poverty turn to characteristic industries like vegetable planting, cattle breading, TCM herbs, and economic and fruit forests. Besides, leading enterprises from both upstream and downstream sectors of the chain were also introduced. On the basis of all above, we finally built up a supporting mode of "leading enterprise + cooperative + poor households + base", and achieved an operating mode that integrates "supply, production and sale" together to guarantee continuous income increase and in-site poverty reduction.
(1) Vegetable industry: Evergrande helped Bijie build up 60,000 vegetable greenhouses, 400,000 mu of vegetable and fruit field bases, and 300,000 ㎡ of vegetable seedling center. Up to now, 60,980 vegetable greenhouses, 367,000 mu of vegetable field bases, 288,000 ㎡ of vegetable seedling centers, and 68 storage and preliminary processing bases have been well constructed in total.
(2) Cattle breeding industry: Evergrande has helped Bijie to introduce and breed 100,000 Angus and Simmental high-quality cows, improve 500,000 native cattle breeds, build up a breeding base capable for breeding of 100,000 cattle, and a high-quality forage base covering an area of 500,000 mu. Up to now, 83,127 Angus and Simmental cows have been introduced and bred, 323,000 native cattle breeds have been improved, breeding bases capable for 90,000 cattle have been established, and 310,000 mu of excellent forage base have been well constructed.
(3) Industry of TCM herbs, economic and fruit forests: Evergrande helped Bijie build up a fruit forest base covering an area of 250,000 mu and a TCM herbs planting base covering an area of 250,000 mu. And up to now, 139,000 mu base for TCM herbs and edible fungi, and 367,000 mu base for economic and fruit forests have been well constructed and put into use.
II. Poverty Alleviation by Relocating. Evergrande cooperated with the local Party committee and government to implement relocation for the poor people living in the deep mountains and forests which provide limited production and living conditions. A total of 17 resettlement communities and 50 new rural areas were constructed, with a total construction area of 5.11 million square meters, and the relocation of all 221,800 poor people was completed. At the same time, Evergrande has donated educational facilities, medical facilities, commercial facilities, and developed industries suitable for poor households to ensure that poor people can get rid of poverty and become rich after moving. In 2020, the resettlement communities in Dafang County, Qixingguan District, and Qianxi County aided by Evergrande were rated as the “13th Five-Year Plan Beautiful Resettlement Communities” by the National Development and Reform Commission.
III. Poverty Alleviation through Education. By building schools, strengthening the teaching staff, and setting up education funds, Evergrande has made up for the shortage of local education resources. A total of 43 schools, including 13 primary schools, 28 kindergartens, 1 combined junior/senior high school, and 1 vocational college, have been donated and put into use, solving the education problem of 21,000 children. At the same time, with Evergrande’s donation, one hospital, one nursing home, and one children’s welfare home were built and put into use in Dafang County, Bijie City, providing help for the medical treatment of poor families, the elderly care for the orphaned and widowed, and the livelihood of deprived children. At the same time, Evergrande also called on all its middle-level employees to pair up with 4,993 left-behind children, deprived children, and orphans and gave them one-on-one assistance.
IV. Employment Poverty Alleviation. Evergrande organized vocational skills training and recommended the labor force from poor families to the upstream and downstream enterprises introduced by Evergrande, subordinate enterprises, and strategic partners for employment. A total of 113,217 people were trained, 75,462 people were employed, and the average annual income per capita was RMB 42,000. Evergrande helped them realize that the whole family would be lifted out of poverty when one person was employed.
Shaking off poverty is not the finish line, but the starting point of a new life and new endeavor . Comprehensively promoting rural revitalization is a major task to realize the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Evergrande will always unswervingly follow the Communist Party of China. While running the corporate cautiously and conscientiously in accordance with the laws, Evergrande will continue to repay society and actively undertake more social responsibilities. Evergrande Group plans to invest RMB 5.7 billion to build 17 relocation communities and 50 new villages in 10 counties and districts for relocating 221,800 poor people of Bijie City.
