The outcome of the “China Charity Award”, the highest government charity award organized by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, was unveiled on December 5th. On the morning of December 5th, Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of China and Chairman of the Military Commission of the Central Committee of CPC, met representatives of China Philanthropy Conference and delivered an important speech. Li Keqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council also attended the meeting. Outstanding individuals including Hui Kayan, Board Chairman of Evergrande Real Estate Group, won the prestigious China Charity Award with the honorary title of “Individual with Outstanding Contribution in Charitable Donation”, and were standing in the first row to meet and shake hands with President Hu Jintao.

It is reported that in order to promote a society with a charitable spirit and to commend individuals with outstanding contribution to the country when China was hit by natural disaster, the Ministry of Civil Affairs has decided to commend winners of “2008 China Charity Award” and outstanding charity workers on a nationwide scale. The notification of commendation has been warmly received by all circles of the society. Departments of civil affairs and various charity organizations across the country as well as all circles of the society have recommended or self-recommended 1582 candidates through the on-line application and evaluation platform developed by the China Charity & Donation Information Center.Through review of the judging panel office and the evaluation of the judging panel, the list of China Charity Award winners for 2008 has been finally decided.
