Reported by Guangzhou Daily (Journalist Yang Min): The 2010-2011 competition season of China Women’s Volleyball League A was inaugurated yesterday. In the home field, the gymnasium of Jinan University, Evergrande Women’s Volleyball Team led by Lang Ping defeated Shanghai Women’s Volleyball Team, the runner-up of the last competition season, at 3:1. Evergrande Women’s Volleyball Team and the rival played at the high score of 33:31 in the 3rd set. Although the team made a good beginning, Lang Ping said, this was only the first game. She would not raise the target for this reason.
The game last night was also the curtain raiser of the competition season of the League. Cai Zhenhua, Deputy Director General of the General Administration of Sport of China who is responsible for volleyball, Xu Li, Director of the Volleyball Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, Yu Juemin, Chief Coach of the National Women’s Volleyball Team, and Hu Jin, Leader of the National Women’s Volleyball Team, were all present at the site, and both teams all dispatched their top players for the game.
In spite of short cooperation time, the three absolute top players, namely, Feng Kun, Tom Logan, and Jovana Brakocevic, have powerful personal strength. With their leadership, Evergrande Women’s Volleyball Team won the first set at 25:16. After Shanghai Women’s Volleyball Team won the second set at 25:23, both teams refused to give in the third set, from 23:23 to 31:31. Lang Ping successfully stabilized the players’ mood with a time-out at the critical moment, and then the team won the set at 33:31. The fans of the whole gymnasium witnessed Evergrande Women’s Volleyball Team winning the set uneasily. In the fourth set, Evergrande Women’s Volleyball Team followed up a victory with hot pursuit. It scored for 4 consecutive times by blocking from the just beginning and overwhelmed the rival in momentum. Finally, Evergrande Women’s Volleyball Team defeated the rival at 25:15 in the fourth set and at 3:1 in the whole game.
As for the fact that Evergrande Women’s Volleyball Team as a just upgraded team defeated the runner-up of the last competition season, Yu Juemin, Chief Coach of the National Women’s Volleyball Team, held the opinion that Evergrande Women’s Volleyball Team could at least rank third in this competition season. However, Chief Coach Lang Ping, continued to maintain a low profile. She emphasized that this was just a game. “We have no target (of the achievement). Our target is each game.”
